When Eagles Soar
The 2011 NLFC U12 Eagles are the proud winners of the inaugural 1233 challenge cup.
The U12 eagles (F grade this year) have made the semi finals every year but have not yet been able to put any silver in the trophy cabinet. This all changed on Saturday the 4th of June.
1233 ABC hosted a competition for local U12 teams to have their game called live on local radio. The NLFC Eagles and the Kotara Tigers won the competition and we were lucky enough to have the game at Novocastrian Park.
After a week of rain it turned out to be a beautiful Newcastle morning. Michael Bridges and Bronte Bates from the Jets turned up to give the Eagles some pre-game coaching and it seemed to help. Both teams came to play and the game was on from the first minute. This was a very close and hard fought contest. In the end there could only be one winner and the Eagles managed to hold the Tigers to a single score while slotting 2 of their own “world class goals”.
This was such an exciting day, what a sense of occasion the ABC managed to stir up. There was a big crowd at Novocastrian Park and the kids were overjoyed to participate and of course pleased to win.
